In this article about the bible verses about marriage I'll be looking at the different bible verses on marriage that set the guidelines for a Christian marriage.
Reasoning from the Scriptures published by Jehovah's witnesses define marriage as:
The union of a man and a woman to live together as husband and wife according to the standard set out in the Holy Scriptures. Marriage is a divine institution. It provides for intimate relationship between husband and wife along with a feeling of security because there is a climate of love and because a personal commitment has been made by each mate.
Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.
And Jehovah God went on to say:
"It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him."
And Jehovah God proceeded to build the rib that he had taken from the man into a woman and to bring her to the man. Then the man said:
"This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one will be called woman, because from man this one was taken."
That is why a man will leave his father and his mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh.
Has one found a good wife? One has found a good thing, and one gets goodwill from Jehovah.
Take wives and become father to sons and daughters; and take wives for your own sons and give your own daughters to husbands, that they may give birth to sons and to daughters; and become many there, and do not become few.
2 Corinthians 6:14-16
Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Be'lial? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God's temple have with idols? For we are a temple of a living God; just as God said:
"I shall reside among them and walk among them, and I shall be their God, and they will be my people".
I Corinthians 7:39b
She is free to be married to whom she wants, only in the Lord.
I Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled. Bad association spoils useful habits.
I Corinthians 7:12b-16
If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is agreeable to dwelling with him, let him not leave her. And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and yet he is agreeable to dwelling with her, let her not leave her husband. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in relation to his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in relation to the brother; otherwise your children would really be unclean, but now they are holy. But if the unbelieving one proceeds to depart, let him depart; a brother or sister is not in servitude under such circumstances, but God has called you to peace.
For, wife, how do you know but that you will save your husband? Or, husband, how do you know but that you will save your wife?
1 Peter 3:1
You wives be in subjection to your own husbands, in order that if any are not obedient to the word, they may be won without a word through the conduct of their wives.
Legally registering a marriage and paying of the bride price (where required) has since bible times been the process for a valid marriage.
Continue reminding them to be in subjection and be obedient to governments and authorities as rulers, to be ready for every good work.
Further, God blessed them and God said to them:
Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.
Proverbs 5:18, 19
Let your water source prove to be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth, a lovable hind and a charming mountain goat. Let her own breasts intoxicate you at all times. With her love may you be in an ecstasy constantly.
I Corinthians 7:3-5
Let the husband render to his wife her due; but let the wife also do likewise to her husband. The wife does not exercise authority over her own body, but her husband does; likewise, also, the husband does not exercise authority over his own body, but his wife does. Do not be depriving each other of it, except by mutual consent for an appointed time, that you may come together again, that Satan may not keep tempting you for your lack of self-regulation.
I Corinthians 6:18-20
Flee from fornication. Every other sin that a man may commit is outside his body, but he that practices fornication is sinning against his own body. What! Do you not know that the body of you people is the temple of God? Also, you do not belong to yourselves, for you were bought with a price. By all means, glorify God in the body of you people.
I John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Psalms 103: 8, 14
Jehovah is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness. For he himself well knows the formation of us, remembering that we are dust.
Now in case a man seduces a virgin who is engaged, and he actually lies down with her, he is to obtain her without fail as his wife for the purchase price.
I Corinthians 7: 1b, 2
It is well for a man not to touch a woman. Yet, because of the prevalence of fornication, let each man have his own wife and each woman have her own husband.
I Corinthians 7:7-9
Now I say to the unmarried persons and the widows, it is well for them that they remain even as I am. But if they do not have self-control, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to be inflamed with passion.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their hard work. For if one of them should fail, the other one can raise his partner up. But how will it be with just the one who fails when there is not another to raise him up?
Moreover, if two lie down together, they also will certainly get warm; but how can just one keep warm? And if somebody could overpower alone, two together could make a stand against him. And a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn in two.

Leviticus 18:9, 11
As for the nakedness of your father sister, the daughter of your father or the daughter of your mother, whether born in the same household or born outside it, you must not lay bare their nakedness.
As for the nakedness of the daughter of your father's wife, the offspring of your father, she being your sister, you must not lay bare her nakedness.
Ephesians 5:21-26, 28-30
Be in subjection to one another in fear of Christ. Let wives be in subjection to their husbands as to the Lord. Because a husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation, be being a saviour of this body. In fact, as the congregation is in subjection to the Christ, so let wives also be to their husbands in everything. Husbands, continue loving your wives, just as the Christ also loved the congregation and delivered up himself for it, that he might sanctify it, cleansing it with the bath of water by means of the word.
In this way husbands ought to be loving their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself, for no man ever hated his own flesh; but he feeds and cherishes it, as the Christ also does the congregation because we are members of his body.
Let each one of you individually so love his wife as he does himself; on the other hand, the wife should have deep respect for her husband.
I Peter 3:7
You husbands, continue dwelling in like manner with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since you are also heirs with them of the underserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered.
Colossians 3:18, 19
You wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as it is becoming in the Lord. You husbands keep on loving your wives and do not be bitterly angry with them.
I Corinthians 11:11
In connection with the Lord neither is woman without man nor man without woman. For just as the woman is out of man, so also the man is through the woman; but all things are out of God.
Better is it to dwell in a wilderness land than with a contentious wife along with vexation.
I Corinthians 13:4-8a
Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things endures all things. Love never fails.
I Timothy 3:2, 12
The overseer should therefore be irreprehensible, a husband of one wife, moderate in habits, sound in mind, orderly, hospitable, qualified to teach. Let ministerial servants be husbands of one wife, presiding in a fine manner over children and their households.
I Corinthians 7:10-11
To the married people I give instructions, yet not I but the Lord, that a wife should not depart from her husband; but if she should actually depart, let her remain unmarried or else make up again with her husband; and a husband should not leave his wife.
I Corinthians 6:9, 10
What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, not thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God's kingdom.
And the Pharisees came up to him, with the intent on tempting him and saying:
"Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of ground?"
"In reply he said:
"Did you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh? so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart."
They said to him:
"Why, then, did moses prescribe giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?"
He said to them:
"Moses, out of regard for hardheartedness made the concession to you of divorcing your wives, but such has not been the case from beginning. I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery."

Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.
However, I say to you that everyone divorcing his wife, except on the account of fornication, makes her a subject for adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
For instance, a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is alive; but if her husband dies, she is discharged from the law of her husband. So then, while her husband is living, she would be styled an adulteress if she became another man's. But if her husband dies, she is free from his law, so that she is not an adulteress if she becomes another man's.
I Corinthians 7:39
A wife is bound during all the time her husband is alive, but if her husband should fall asleep in death, she is free to be married to whom she wants, only in the Lord.
